The betting favorite for this year’s Cy Young Award, has picked up his first post-season accolade.
Paul Skenes has been named the 2025 Baseball Digest/Inside Edge MLB Pitcher of the Year Award winner.
21 of the 24 voters (consisting of writers, broadcasters, former players, managers and executives) voted for Skenes. The other three voted Skenes either second or third place.
Skenes finished the season with a sub-2.00 ERA (1.97) this season with 216 strikeouts (good for a second-place tie with Jesus Luzardo).
Skenes finished 10-10 on the season and is only the third Pirates pitcher in team history to have a sub-.200 or lower.
He’s also only the fourth pitcher in 105 years to have an ERA 2.00 or lower at age 23 or younger.
Skenes also now holds the record for most strikeouts by a right-handed pitcher in club history with 216.
