The “Great Pittsburgh Pierogy Race” returned inside PNC Park for the first time since 2019 on Monday.
The event was so big; it was even featured on MLB Network.
While we applaud the coverage, we’d like analyst Dan Plesac to do a little bit more research before he does the play-by-play of the race.
Plesac called Jalapeno Hanna “Green Machine” and “lime-aid”, Bacon Burt “Orange Crush”, Oliver Onion “The Purple People Eater” and Sauerkraut Saul “Pinkie”.
Unfortunately, Cheese Chester didn’t get a nick name from Plesac.
Of course we’re just kidding, Plesac is too busy studying baseball stats to know how seriously we take our pierogis here in Pittsburgh.
Plesac did do a hilariously amazing job calling it like a horse race and the MLB Network even offered up his services to call a future race.
If he does though, he better be sure he gets their names right.
Oh and “Orange Crush” … I mean Bacon Burt won on Monday night.
The “Great Pittsburgh Pierogy Race” is a 280-yard dash that takes place at the end of the 5th inning during every Pirates home game.
