Pirates call up 4 players after trades

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Post-trade deadline roster moves as the Pirates open a series in Colorado Friday night. Four called up from the minors, three are pitchers.

According to GM Ben Cherington, Triolo will most likely be the regular third baseman after being sent down for hitting struggles last month. Triolo reached safety in each of his last 12 games at AAA.
In 57 games with the Pirates, the 27-year-old hit .158 with a .253 on-base percentage and .519 OPS. He had six doubles and three home runs

LHP Ryan Borucki

Ends his rehab assignment after six appearances at AAA Indy with a 1.42 ERA with nine strikeouts and four walks in 6.1 innings. This year in 29 appearances with the Pirates, the lefty was 1-3, 5.26 ERA, 25.2 innings, 22 strikeouts and 11 walks. Borucki had a great 2023 with the Pirates, 4-0, 2.45 ERA, 38 appearances and a 0.74 WHIP.

RHP Thomas Harrington

Recently during 24, Harrington was a first-round pick in 2022 and this season in AAA, 7-8, 5.48 ERA in 18 starts, 90.1 innings, 84 strikeouts, 32 walks, 1.35 WHIP. The right-hander made two appearances (1 start) with a 10.13 ERA in 8 innings with seven strikeouts to five walks.

RHP Kyle Nicolas

The reliever will make his third different appearance with the Pirates this year. In 30 games with AAA Indianapolis 2-2, 5 saves, 3.79 ERA, 35.2 innings, 50 strikeouts. In 10 appearances in the majors this year, 12 innings, 13 hits, 10 runs, nine walks and eight strikeouts. Last year Nicolas pitched in 51 games with the Pirates going 2-2, 3.95 ERA, 54.2 innings, 31 walks, 55 strikeouts, 1.50 WHIP.

After the trades, the Pirates have three open spots on the 40-man roster.
