PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) The 2022 season for the Pittsburgh Pirates is underway and after just one game they have had multiple injuries.
Infielder Ke'Bryan Hayes left in the first inning of the game and relief pitcher Duane Underwood Jr. was taken out early, as well.
To fill the pitcher opening for Underwood, the Pirates have called up top pitching prospect Roansy Contreras.
Initially placed in Triple-A to start the season, Contreras was scheduled to get his first start of the season on Saturday with the Indianapolis Indians.
This will be Contrera's second career stint in the MLB after playing in two games in 2021.
Underwood left Thursday's game early with hamstring discomfort.
Going into the 2022 MLB season, Contreras was listed at the Pirates No. 2 pitching prospect and No. 5 overall.
