PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) The top rating prospects have been making their way to the Pittsburgh Pirates organization for a couple of years now, and the critics are taking notice.
Baseball America released their rankings for MLB farm systems and the Pirates jumped 12 spots to sit at third in the league.
Only the Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays farm systems were rated above the Pirates'.
Placing third shouldn't come as a surprise to fans as six Pirates' prospects landed on the Baseball America top 100 list.
Those player were shortstop Oneil Cruz (14), catcher Henry Davis (41), second baseman Nick Gonzales (49), shortstop Liover Peguero (78), pitcher Roansy Contreras (80), pitcher Quinn Priester (88).
That sounds like a good start to a promising, young infield for the Pirates.
The Pirates with six names on the top 100 list, tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the most players.
The current Pirates team may leave a lot to be desired, but the future is bright and could be coming sooner rather than later.
Over the past few years the Pirates farm system has been improving.
In 2020 they held the 20th spot in the league, and 15th in 2022.
