The Pirates have signed a player that fell in the draft because teams were convinced he would go to college.

Outfielder Braylon Bishop, committed to the University of Arkansas since he was 15, officially signed his contract on Tuesday.

MLB.com had Bishop possibly going in the first three rounds but went to the Pirates in the 14th round at 403 overall.

Fan Insider Jason Mackey of the Post-Gazette reports that Bishop signed with a $268,000 bonus.

Bishop is ranked the 88th best prospect by Baseball America and 94th in the MLB Pipeline in the 2021 draft.

He was also rated by Perfect Game as the best player in the state of Arkansas among the 2021 graduating class.

Bishop hit .400 in his senior year at Arkansas High School with eight doubles, five triples and four home runs along with 12 stolen bases.

Bishop will begin his Pirates career in the Florida Complex League.
