Pirates practice pauses after man catching fly balls collapses

Pirates practice was paused on Tuesday morning after a guest of the organization suffered what is being described as a cardiac event.

Pirates insider Jason Mackey, of the Post-Gazette reports the older male was catching fly balls in the outfield during Spring Training.

The man collapsed and members of the Pirates medical staff including Dr. Patrick DeMeo went out to center field, CPR was performed and a defibrillator was used.

Mackey says the man was associated with the Manatee Chamber of Commerce and is from Bradenton, Florida.

The man was reportedly alert and was responding as he was loaded into an ambulance.
