Pirates prospect, Travis Swaggerty, who was heavily considered to make the trip to Pittsburgh is on currently on a rehab assignment in Bradenton after being put on the injured list in April, he and his family are dealing with a more serious issue.

Swaggerty posted early Wednesday morning on Twitter that his wife is headed to the hospital in an attempt to get answers and a treatment after she developed an “extremely rare, painful blood disease.”

“Tomorrow, my wife Peyton heads to the Mayo Clinic (with Sutton (they’re daughter) and her parents and nana),” Swaggerty said.

He says Payton was attacked by a rabid raccoon and has been dealing with pain since.

“It has riddled her with unresolved pain and problems and completely taken her quality of life away from her,” said Swaggerty.

Swaggerty said he is posting the information, asking for prayer and to remind people “to not take anything for granted in this life, especially the little things.”

Swaggerty is with the Marauders after he was placed on the 7-day IL with an illness.
