PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Pirates infielder/outfielder Cole Tucker is most likely going to get more playing time in centerfield and is also getting more attention on social media and is taking advantage of his platform.
During an interview on MLB Network, Tucker, who is a biracial child, says the past week has been “wild.”
“Take baseball out of it, just throw being an American citizen into it and it’s just been wild and just trying to learn, I’m young but I have a platform to speak on a lot of these issues and I have an interesting background being biracial and just the way my parents raised me,” Tucker said on MLB Central.
While it has a been a sad and tense week but he is proud of fellow players and people all around the world have spoken out.
Tucker adds that players are not boycotting baseball but rather recognizing the game, “we realize our work place isn’t the most important thing in the world right now it’s people being safe in the streets and people being guaranteed the rights and liberties that we all get as Americans,” said Tucker.
Earlier this week, Tucker tweeted, “Ending police brutality is more important than sports.”
Tucker says it’s a perfect day to celebrate Jackie Robinson Day on August 28 as well as the weekend and it gives a change for players to come together.
“I’m extremely honored to be in the big leagues wearing 42 on my back, it’s something that I’ve been dreaming about ever since I was a little kid.”
