According to Post-Gazette Pirates writer Jason Mackey, the Pirates have signed a relief pitcher.
28-year-old Brent Honeywell has signed a minor league deal with a non-roster invitation to Spring Training.
If he makes the team, he'll make $1.25 million.
Taken in the second round of the 2014 draft by the Tampa Bay Rays, Honeywell made three appearances for the Rays in 2021 with an 8.31 ERA.
He has a lifetime record of 2-4 with the Rays, San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox combined.
He has a lifetime 5.08 ERA over 43 games with 49 strike outs, 26 walks, giving up 58 hits and 12 home runs.
Honeywell's career has been hampered by injury including Tommy John surgery, two elbow fractures and nerve surgery.
If he stays healthy and performs well, he could be a middle reliever for the Pirates in 2024.
