PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - One of the Pirates top prospects Ke’Bryan Hayes is expected to make his Major League debut on Tuesday night and when he does, he could instantly be the best defensive third baseman in the MLB.
During the postgame show on 93.7 The Fan Monday night, announcer John Wehner told Kraig Riley that he is great with the glove and has range.
“He’s rangy, he has great hands, he has great feet, this guy makes things look easy,” Wehner told the Fan Morning Show on Tuesday.
Wehner adds his uniform usually stays clean because he doesn’t have to leave his feet often to get a ball.
“He just to me is the total package defensively,” added Wehner. “This guy will be a Gold Glove candidate at some point.”
MLB Pipline reports that Hayes is the only third base prospect to have a grade of 60 or higher for field and arm rating.
The Pirates selected Hayes in the first round of the 2015 draft and since then has continued to improve his glove work.
Offensively, Hayes as a career .279 average in the minors with 483 hits, 202 RBI with 96 double, 18 triples and 25 home runs.
