A starter due to injury, Adams back to establish himself

Montravius Adams v Baltimore
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He said after the season he thought he was a good fit with the Steelers, now the team is bringing back defensive lineman Montravius Adams for two-years, $5 million.

"Give everything I can," Adams described his style.  "That's one thing I can promise.  I'm trying to be in this black and gold for a while.  I'm hoping to finish my time here.  It's definitely been great here.  Definitely the best opportunity I've had so far.  I got on this train and want to keep riding until the wheels fall off."

Adams appeared in five games with the Steelers making four starts after his release by the Saints, where he also played five games with one start.  The 26-year-old from Auburn took advantage of injuries on the defensive line.  He believes he more than just an inside player at 6'3", 304 pounds filling in for Tyson Alualu.

"I wouldn't just say I'm a nose tackle," Adams said.  "People would say 'dang, you're a good nose'.  I never even really played nose since Auburn.  The way they use me here, I understand it.  I always felt like nose was an advantage, but I didn't want to think I was just a nose tackle."

Alualu is expected back, but is 36-years-old and it's still not known what Stephon Tuitt will do this season.  There will be opportunity for Adams to establish himself in the NFL.

"It was the love from inside the building," Adams said.  "The veteran leadership here is unbelievable.  Just being able to jump in and play, I wouldn't be able to do it if it wasn't for the vets here."

Free agency begins officially at 4p on Wednesday.
