There is one spot for a Steelers Hall of Fame wide receiver to go into Canton, who are you taking Hines Ward or Antonio Brown?
That is the question that sparked debate on social media after Fan Morning Show host Colin Dunlap said that AB deserves to go in over Ward.
"It is a really Pittsburgh opinion, because Antonio Brown is a knucklehead, it's a really Pittsburgh opinion to say it's Hines Ward," said Dunlap. "Antonio Brown is much more worthy of the Hall of Fame."
But our listeners disagree. A Fan Morning Show Twitter poll shows Ward winning 59.1 percent to Browns' 49.9 percent.
Let's take a look at their career stats.
In 11 seasons, Brown has 886 catches for 11,746 yards, 84 touchdowns with 13.3 yards per catch.
In 14 seasons, Ward had 1,000 catches for 12.083 yards with 85 touchdowns and 12.1 yards per catch.
Ward has two Super Bowl rings along with a Super Bowl MVP, Brown has one Super Bowl ring, winning last year with Tampa Bay.
Ward is a four-time Pro Bowler and three-time second team All Pro, Brown is a seven-time Pro Bowler and a four-time first team All Pro.
Jim Colony says that by far, AB is the better wide receiver, but asks if Ward was a better football player.
Morning Show co-host Chris Mack says your number one job as a wide receiver is to catch the ball and while Ward may be one of the best blocking receivers in NFL history, it wasn't his primary job and wasn't enough to ever earn him first-team All Pro honors.
At various times in his career, Brown has led the league in catches, yards, touchdowns and receiving yards per game.
Of course Brown has his off field issues, something Ward has never had.
"If you're not talking Hall of Fame, you're not talking about his ability to produce on the field," said Mack.
"But they will," responded Colony. "Which is why if he produces on the field and keeps quite social media wise over the next three, four, five years, I think that talk does go away."
"You can't take all the other stuff aside from the primary function of being a wide receiver that Hines Ward may have done, locker room leadership, downfield blocking, all that stuff, that is not enough to make up for how excellent was at his primary function," said Mack.
