PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It was a great line from Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen discussing all of the rumors about his future on social media.
“There were very slim facts out there,” Queen said.
The 26-year-old is in the final year of his three-year, $41 million contract which persuaded him to leave the Ravens. Queen was productive with Baltimore amassing 454 tackles with 13.5 sacks and in two seasons with the Steelers 249 tackles and two sacks.
“There were talks here and there, nothing crazy,” Queen said after an OTA practice on Thursday. “Obviously I saw the whole charade (social media talk) that went on this offseason. There were talks last week, there was no movement either way.”
“At the end of the day, they got business to handle, I got business to handle. My business is to go out there and play the best football I can and put myself in a good position, put the team in a good position so that we both can be successful.”
Queen said Pittsburgh is a different place to live, but he’s starting to like it and doesn’t see why he wouldn’t return with the Steelers even with the coaching change this year. That could be significant because Queen praised Mike Tomlin as a reason he signed with the Steelers in 2024.
“It was crazy,” Queen said. “It was just a wild offseason. I went through a whole bunch of stuff. But mostly for me I just stayed true to myself. Trust in God. Trust my family around me. Got some representation and ever since then been working out, fishing, doing the same old me. Not switching up anything I do, just staying true to my faith.”
New Steelers defensive coordinator Patrick Graham has spent a lot of time trying to get to know the players. One of the biggest issues Queen saw in his couple of years with the Steelers were issues with communication. He called former teammate Elandon Roberts to try to get a handle on how Graham would be.
Former Bengals DL now Steelers DL coach
“I talked to E-Rob a little bit about it because E-Rob was with him in Vegas,” Queen said. “He said it was the bare minimum that you got to communicate. I just loved that because for me personally if everybody communicates everybody is going to know what they are supposed to do. If you don't know what you are supposed to do, someone is going to figure it out with communication. Then you are all on the same page and everybody can fly around and you can be that Steel Curtain type defense. We got to go out there and prove it and do it every single down.”
There are ballers in the linebacker room according to Queen, chief among them Payton Wilson. Queen believes the sky is the limit for him and considers Wilson a good friend. The linebacker also said they have a coach that cares and it’s up to all on that side of the ball to do their job and be physical.
As for him and his contract?
“I got a good amount of money coming in this year, so I could care less,” Queen said. “If I get it done, cool, if not cool.”
