Last week, inside linebacker Markus Golden signed a one-year deal to return to Pittsburgh.
Today, August 9, he retired.
Golden was placed on the Reserve/Retired List a week after he came back to the Steelers.
Taken in the second-round of the 2015 NFL Draft by Arizona, Golden signed with the Steelers in 2023, appearing in 16 games.
Golden said last weekend he was excited to play another year of football.
Before he signed with the Steelers, Golden said he was spending his time staying in shape but, “my son was working out with me every day, I start to feel a little retired.”
He had 4 sacks and 20 total tackles last season with one fumble recovery and one pass defended, along with 10 quarterback hits.
Golden also started in the Wild Card game against the Buffalo Bills last season after T.J. Watt suffered an injury.
He had one sack and three tackles in that loss to the Bills.
The 33-year-old Golden was going to be entering his 10th season in the NFL, with a career total of 51 sacks, 220 solo tackles and 11 forced fumbles.
To make room for Golden, the Steelers waived/injure linebacker David Perales last week.
