Plans for the Steelers to return to St. Vincent College in Latrobe for Training Camp have fallen through.

For the second straight year, Training Camp will be held at Heinz Field and the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the South Side. Select practices will be open to the public at Heinz Field.

In a statement Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten said, “We are disappointed we won’t be holding our 2021 training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. We were prepared to safely host training camp on campus with fans, but unfortunately our plan was not approved due to the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols.”

The move is disappointing to the hundreds of Steelers fans who make the annual trek to Latrobe.

It will also be a financial hit for the businesses, restaurants and bars that operate around the area.

While we don't know all the details surrounding the NFL's decision, it is strange considering the Chiefs plan to hold their training camp at a small college was approved on Wednesday.

The Steelers add they plan to return to Latrobe in 2022.

Pittsburgh is one of the few teams that still hold a traditional camp away from their facilities.

Because they are playing Dallas in the Hall of Fame Game, The Steelers will report to camp on July 21, a week later than the rest of the league.

Coach Mike Tomlin told reporters last week during mini camp that no matter where they train, they'll be ready.
