According to multiple reports, the Steelers are expected to sign safety Jabrill Peppers.
Peppers was a surprise release by the New England Patriots after training camp.
The 31-year-old only played in six games last years with one interception and one forced fumble, but had a good 2023 with two interceptions over 15 games, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one sack.
Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel said that it wasn’t an issue with not fitting into New England’s scheme, but didn’t say way the veteran was released a couple weeks ago.
Peppers was arrested last October on assault, strangulation and drug possession charges. He was placed on the Commissioner’s exempt list but later acquitted of assault and battery.
The move could correspond with an injury to safety DeShon Elliott, who was hurt during Sunday’s opening win in New York.
Elliott suffered a left knee injury.
Jordan Schultz is reporting that Elliott is expected to “miss a couple weeks” and has an MCL sprain. He will likely go on injured reserve.
