PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He was the eighth person to interview to replace Mike Tomlin and thought by many to be a potential token interview being a Greenfield native, but several NFL insiders report on Saturday the Steelers are going to hire Mike McCarthy as its fourth head coach since 1969.

The 62-year-old went 49-35 during five years with the Cowboys, 1-3 in the postseason. For 13 years as the Packers head coach, McCarthy was 125-77-2 in the regular season and 10-8 in the playoffs including the victory in Super Bowl XLV.

McCarthy has coached at home before, he was a graduate student and then wide receivers coach at Pitt under Paul Hackett in the late 80s and early 90s.

Steelers had talked with a total of nine candidates.
