There is a lot of intrigue on the South Side this morning. At 1 p.m. Steelers owner Art Rooney II will make a "special announcement."
Fan sports director Jeff Hathhorn says Steelers media has no idea what the announcement will be.
But before that, head coach Mike Tomlin will hold his first press conference of the regular season.
Fan Morning Show co-host Chris Mack says that Tomlin will also have a pretty big announcement when he kicks off his presser at noon.
Mack says, "Mike Tomlin is going to have news that many of you will like."
So, what will Rooney's conference be about?
The Fan morning show speculated Tuesday morning ahead of the announcement.
Mack said the Rooney press conference is odd, since once the football season starts, the Steelers organization usually sticks to football.
If the Steelers are going to announce they're wearing throwback jerseys for the 50th anniversary game of the Immaculate Reception against the Raiders…"that's a press release."
Dorin Dickerson says it could a big announcement from Tomlin at noon, he makes a big announcement and doesn't add any details until Rooney does so at 1.
Producer Adam Crowley worries it could be something more serious.
He speculates, just throwing it out there with no evidence, that maybe it concerns Brian Flores and his lawsuit with the NFL.
He also points out when the Penguins do something like this it usually is something serious. The announcement of Kris Letang's stroke or Pascal Dupuis' stroke.
Another possibility, The Steeler recently hired David Morehouse after he resigned with the Penguins, could he possibly be taking on more responsibilities?
Others had pretty out there speculation.
