PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Quite a few days for Steelers outside linebacker Derrek Tuszka, as the team made another roster move at the position.
After the initial cuts on Tuesday, Tuszka was the lead back-up at outside linebacker. Defensive Coordinator Teryl Austin praised his consistency and he believed Tuszka had grown after a full offseason with the Steelers.
Tuesday evening the Steelers traded for Malik Reed to take the job as the top backup and then on Thursday Tuszka was released.
Steelers picking up outside linebacker Jamir Jones off waivers from the Jaguars. The 24-year-old was on the Steelers initial 53-man roster last year and played in three games before being waived and picked up by the Rams playing 10 games before his release on Christmas Day.
Jones signed as a free agent by Jacksonville in April. Tuszka played in 15 games for the Steelers last year and nine for Denver in 2020.
The team resumes practice on Monday after taking the weekend off.
