Since 2019, The Pittsburgh Steelers STEM program has worked with local schools to help provide education resources and other opportunities in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math fields.

Through a partnership with FedEx, over 20,000 students in the area have completed an online course, making up over 32,000 hours of learning.

On Monday, the Steelers and FedEx visited David E. Williams Middle School in the Montour School District.

Two-time Super Bowl Champion Chris Hoke spoke with students about the importance of education.

Hoke, talked about his early football dreams and how he made that a reality through hard work at BYU and then, 11 years with the Steelers.

Some of the students participating shared what they want to do when they begin a career. Veterinarian, heart surgeon and professional soccer player were a few of the answers.

Hoke said that no matter what the kids want to do when they grow up, STEM plays a critical role.

Hoke hosted a Q and A with three FedEx employees that shared their stories of education and how getting a package to your front door takes a lot more than you think.

In addition to the importance of education, Hoke told the students to remember to look up from their phones and that one-on-one interaction and being engaged in the real world can benefit them more than they know.

“Use your phone, don’t let your phone use you,” said Hoke.
