PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - After an ankle injury limited James Conner to six carries in the season opener, the Steelers number-one running back should be ready to face the Broncos on Sunday. Conner is not included on the final injury report of the week.
"It's definitely trending in the right direction," Conner said Friday. "I practiced yesterday and I practiced today. I'll keep getting treatment on it."
The origin of the injury remains a mystery, even to Conner.
"It was just something that didn't feel right," Conner said. "it was hurting me to put a little pressure on it. I'm not exactly sure how it happened. I tried to watch the film, but it was a little blurry. It isn't an old, aggravating injury. I'm feeling good now, so it's all good."
Conner, who struggled through an injury-filled 2019 season, admits it was frustrating to have to leave early against the Giants.
"I wanted to be out there, but we won the game. That's the most important thing. I know stuff happens. I've been trying to do everything I can to stay healthy."
As Conner watched from the sideline, his backup Benny Snell Jr ran for a career-high 113 yards.
"I thought his performance was good, a hundred yards," said Conner. "Closing the game out toward the end, good hard running, falling forward, I just saw a guy that's been constantly improving. It's so cool to see. And he's playing big for us."
Conner made it clear that while he expects to face the Broncos, he doesn't care who gets the start in the backfield, saying "I'm not a selfish guy."
