It looks like the waiting game could once again cost the Steelers.
Four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers sounded like he was more comfortable with retiring than returning to the NFL after his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show Thursday.
Many believe that if Rodgers returns for another season that will see him turn 42 before its over, his only option is in Pittsburgh.
Speaking to McAfee, Rodgers said he has been upfront with teams like the Steelers and that he is “not holding anybody hostage” as he contemplates his future.
PM Team’s Andrew Fillipponi reports that sources tell him the Steelers higher-ups still “feels pretty good” about Rodgers eventually coming around and signing.
“They must know something we don’t,” Poni said, since nothing Rodgers said on Thursday gave anyone an indication that he wants to play in Pittsburgh.
“Why, if you’re the Steelers, are you waiting this long,” said Jason Mackey filling in for Pomp and Joe. “It’s the Steelers fault this is even happening. It’s the Steelers fault we’re talking about this.”
Former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum speculated on ESPN’s First Take that Rodgers is done.
Tannenbaum said quoting former NFL coach Bill Parcells, “when a player is talking about being retired, they are.”
But, the Steelers seem to still think there is something there and that a deal will still happen.
It looks like Brandon Aiyuk situation all over again, only this time, it’s the most important position in sports…quarterback.
