They won't do it, but Steelers should cut Marcus Allen

The linebacker's bonehead move cost the Steelers some points

Marcus Allen committed one of the dumbest penalties you’ll ever see during a football game on Sunday.

The inside linebacker was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct late in the third quarter, gifting the Panthers 15 yards and an automatic first down.

The Steelers defense sacked Carolina quarterback Same Darnold twice forcing a 4th-and-27.

But instead of a punt, the Panthers were able to get three points.

The reason? Allen walked into the Panthers huddle during a timeout.

He was shoved out of the huddle and put his arms up, shrugging.

After the call, Allen could see seen on the sidelines upset wondering why he got flagged.

It was pretty obviously to everyone except Allen why the flag was thrown. It was an inexcusable move.

One that many, including Colin Dunlap on the Fan Morning Show, believe should cost Allen his job.

Asked about the impact of Allen’s action after the game, Head Coach Mike Tomlin said “it’s three points.”

He was then asked what Allen did?

“I don’t know. It was in a dead period.
We were making adjustments on the sideline and so I didn’t have eyes on it. I don’t know if any of us had eyes on it.”

Allen has started in three games over five seasons with the Steelers.

“A guy who is barely on the roster who has had to have people pull him aside and talk to him about other things before, not on the field but this is barely on the field . . . this guy is clearly not learning his lesson,” said Chris Mack.

Allen has reportedly been told by teammates and Steelers communication staff to turn music down in the locker room on different occasions.

Allen is expendable and releasing him may seem harsh, but the Steelers are 6-8 and don’t need him.
