After the Steelers were embarrassed by the Houston Texans on Sunday, Head Coach Mike Tomlin said, "hell yeah" they were going to be making changes.
On Tuesday, during his weekly news conference, Tomlin unveiled his big plan, they're going to wear pads.
Super Bowl here we come!
The Texans shredded the Steelers run defense and keeping plays to the middle of the field helped keep T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith at bay.
So, what's the solution?
They need to be more physical.
Tomlin harped on the team's lack of physicality and pointed to things like the team having short weeks due to a Monday night game, followed by a Sunday night game. He also threw in the plane issues the team has had the past two weeks.
Sounds like an excuse.
It was a 35-minute news conference, with maybe 10 minutes of news.
It was a tedious, long, drawn out 35 minutes.
Some of the other things that left fans scratching their heads, Tomlin said that there will be no changes with play calling against the Baltimore Ravens. Matt Canada will be calling the plays.
He also addressed passing play on 4th & 1. He said they didn't run because didn't have Dan Moore Jr. and Pat Freiermuth due to injury.
"Freiermuth has been horrible in run blocking, Moore Jr. has a PFF grade almost as low as his age, and you drafted two maulers from Georgia at their positions," said 93.7 The Fan's Josh Rowntree. "You just can't preach 'next man up,' 'standard is the standard' and 'don't live in your fears' and then do everything opposite of that in a key situation."
As Rocky Bleier once said, "The Steelers suck" and the big solution is just trying harder.
If you're trying harder but still throwing passes at and behind the line of scrimmage and starting in shotgun on a 4th & 1 play, is giving it the "old college try" really going to matter?
