If the season was to start today, the Steelers starting quarterback would be Mitch Trubisky, as of now.

Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin told former Steelers cornerback Bryant McFadden that would be the case due to the experience Trubisky has over Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph.

"Mitch as won in this league, the statistics bear that out, he has more experience than the others, and so we just thought it was appropriate to start there," said Tomlin.

That should come as no surprise to Steelers fans. Trubisky has been getting a majority of the first-team snaps in OTAs, minicamp and now in Training Camp.

When it comes to the first preseason game this Saturday at Acrisure Stadium, former Steelers executive and Buffalo Bills General Manager Doug Whaley tells The Fan Morning Show, he would give Trubisky the first two series of the game against the Seattle Seahawks, then let Rudolph finish off the first half, having Pickett play the entire second half.

"Have [Trubisky] be able to call a play in the huddle and have everyone be able to listen to him, him break the huddle, him direct the offense for at least two series, probably won't throw maybe two or three passes, but just get that flow going," said Whaley.

Trubisky, a former second overall pick in the draft, played his first four years with the Chicago Bears, going 29-21 during that time, going to the playoffs a couple times.

Trubisky said it "means a lot" to him to be the current starter on the depth chart.

That doesn't mean that Rudolph or Pickett don't have a chance. Tomlin has said that the two have been playing well enough to keep it a three-man race.

Even if Trubisky gets the starting job for Week One, he will likely have a short leash if things go south quickly.
