Talking to the media ahead of their game against the Seattle Seahawks at home, Tomlin said he expects the first team to play the first quarter, the second team will play the second and third quarters and third team will finish the game in the fourth.

That means Mason Rudolph will play will second team and Kenny Pickett will likely get the entire fourth quarter.

“It’s probably the way it’s played out here to this point.  Like I mentioned to you guys, I wasn’t going to be blowing in the wind regarding the quarterback rotation.  We’ve been thoughtful about giving guys an opportunity to work in different groups.  Our intentions are to play them this first time out very much the way we started this process.”

Tomlin added that those plans are not set in stone and that they can change.

Tomlin how he puts a lot of stock into how QBs perform in a preseason game, including Pickett.

“I mean this guy hasn’t been in a live pocket yet.  None of the quarterbacks have.  That component of it is significant in terms of their play.  Their ability to operate and make decisions in a timely manner.  Their ability to absorb the punishment that comes with the game and the position.  There is so involved in live quarterback play, their ability to protect the football.  It’s a big opportunity for him and others.”

He also talked about what he’s seen from all three quarterbacks so far.

“There are doing what we are asking them to do.  They are taking care of the ball.  They are moving their units.  They are doing the unofficial things that come with the quarterback position in terms of leadership.  They are doing a nice job.”
