In a memo sent to teams last week, the NFL says that alternate-color helmets can return beginning in 2022.
The move will allow teams to have two helmets throughout the season if they wish.
The reason the alternate helmets were taken away was due to safety.
The league wanted every player to have a helmet that fit him properly to be used the entire season, eliminating any chance at having a second helmet.
That news brings up a question, Should the Steelers bring back their yellow helmets or maybe even something completely different?
The Steelers re-introduced their gold/yellow helmet in 2007 and wore them a couple times a season until 2011.
Pittsburgh color rush jerseys would look pretty good with the gold helmet, since they are pretty close to the 1960 throwbacks.
A Steelers fan on Twitter also brought up an interesting proposition. Adding this helmet, the all-black uniforms with gold trim Color Rush outfit.

Other more "far out" concept helmets to consider that may be ahead or its time or maybe just too much for traditional Steelers fans.
Regardless if they choose an alternate helmet or not, the classic black helmet with the Steelers logo on one side should be the primary choice forever.
