PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It was the opportunity Wednesday in front of the Pittsburgh media for George Pickens to discuss what he meant from his social media posts or removals. What his frustration is with all of the double-teams as he only had two catches in the last game.
Pickens' consistent message, he's not bothered by any of it.
When asked if he was frustrated, he said plainly 'no'.
As for dealing with double-teams and how that has impacted his numbers?
"Me personally, all I can keep doing is keep working," Pickens said in the Steelers locker room. "I can't really express it anymore. I can keep working, that's it."
The cameras appeared to show him dejected after Diontae Johnson scored the game-winning touchdown with four minutes to play in the game against Tennessee. Once again, he said it wasn't how he was feeling.
"Nah, we got the victory," Pickens said. "Diontae got a touchdown. We just engineered the victory. I was happy, if anything."
Asked why he didn't stay around to celebrate with Johnson.
"I was just getting back to the sideline," Pickens said. "His touchdown engineered a victory. I don't know how I could be mad at that."
He mentioned often, the purpose is to get a win. The double teams or Johnson being back doesn't really both him. He said it helps the team win and that's the biggest thing and that's what he's about. He did add he hasn't played against coverage, until facing the Titans, where the safety was that low or close to the line of scrimmage on him.
Social Media
When asked about removing mentions of the Steelers on his social media or tweeting 'free me' or his interactions with others on the platform, Pickens shrugged that off as well.
"Just clearing out my page, nothing really too crazy," Pickens said. "It has nothing to do with the Steelers at all."
Asked about how that stuff might impact the team or his teammates.
"I don't mix social media and football together."
He doesn't seem bothered by it. His coach isn't bothered by it. His teammates don't seem bothered by it. Maybe how Pickens acts doesn't really matter, at least right now, to this team.
