PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – When both of your starting outside linebackers are in concussion protocol, you need to have a back-up plan. The Steelers made a move to help with it on Monday.
Steelers signed back outside linebacker David Perales on the practice squad while releasing former Pitt running back and NFL veteran Qadree Ollison.
Perales was signed as an undrafted free agent right after the draft after finishing sixth on the Fresno State all-time sack list with 22.5. At 6'3", 265 pounds, Perales had 11.5 sacks his senior season (seventh in all of FBS) with 16 tackles for loss, along with six quarterback hurries, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and an interception. Perales went through training camp and was signed to the Steelers practice squad, where he spent most of his time until the last couple of weeks. Perales had four tackles in the preseason.
Ollison was active for a pair of games in September, but never got a carry. He rushed for 158 yards in 24 games in his NFL career with five touchdowns. Steelers have activated Godwin Igwebuike or Anthony McFarland as the team's emergency tailback and kick returner over the last few months.
Steelers begin practice for Saturday's game at Indianapolis on Tuesday.
