The organization says they're seeing student’s repeat eighth grade for no other reason than to be a year older when they enter high school athletics.

Under the new rule, eighth graders who are approved for graduation, but voluntarily repeat the grade, will lose a year of eligibility.

The Post-Gazette’s Mike White told Fan Morning Show co-host Colin Dunlap that he knows of several “who are among the best WPIAL basketball players” currently that repeated eight grade to get better at basketball.

Dunlap adds that the rule only applies to eight grade and White says that means when the new rule goes into effect kids will now just be held back in sixth or seventh grade.

Co-host Dorin Dickerson and Dunlap along with Chris Mack saw the PIAA is trying to do the right thing, setting an age limit so students that are 19 can’t play high school sports.
