A lot of work went into the NBA bubble to restart the season amid the pandemic, and there are plenty of workers who do not necessarily get the proper recognition.
But Houston Rockets guard Russell Westbrook made sure to notice.
According to Dallas Morning News reporter Brad Townsend, Westbrook left an $8,000 tip for the housekeepers at the Grand Floridian – where the Rockets and other NBA teams were staying inside the Disney bubble.
Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks confirmed with Westbrook that a generous tip was left, but the exact amount was not disclosed.
“they took great care of us,” Westbrook told Rooks. “Took the time and energy to do their job at a high level. That was the right thing. I like to do the right thing.”
NBA players arrived at the hotels in Orlando in mid-July to quarantine before starting their season on July 30. The Rockets stayed at the Grand Floridian from then until Sept. 12 – likely the day after – when they were eliminated by the Lakers in the Western Conference Semifinals.
Westbrook got a bad rap at the end of that series when he engaged in a verbal spat with Rajon Rondo’s brother in the stands, but the 31-year-old showed his true colors off the court with his generosity toward under-appreciated workers throughout the whole bubble set up.
