93.7 The Fan has a new but familiar voice that will get your day started on Sundays.

We’re pleased to let you know that Shelby Cassesse, (who did updates and sports reporting in the past for us), is getting her own semi-regular show on the station.

Her first so show is this Sunday, May 30, from 7 to 9 a.m.

Cassesse recently returned to her radio roots on our brother station KDKA 100.1 FM & 1020 AM as the station’s full-time reporter.

In addition to being an accomplished reporter, Cassesse is well-versed in not only professional sports in Pittsburgh, but has covered college and high school athletics as well. It’s that kind of knowledge she wants to incorporate into her show.

“My show will naturally cover the Steelers, Penguins, Pirates and Pitt, but I also want to take some time to focus on some of the amazing athletes, teams and organizations right in our own communities,” said Cassesse. “I'm hoping it will develop into a segment I can do each show where I can highlight some of the incredible athletic accomplishments among our high school students or the great athletic organizations giving back. We're also hoping to connect with some of the college teams in our area that can get overlooked, despite incredible success. Anything goes, and I can't wait to get started! If anyone has any ideas, send me a message on Facebook or Twitter!”

Cassesse has been following Pittsburgh sports for as long as she can remember and she tells us her father is to thank for that.

“Sports have been one of the constants in my life. I started playing organized sports young and took an interest in professional sports soon after, mostly because of my dad.
Pittsburgh's teams were on constantly on at our house, and he was kind enough to take me to games at Mellon Arena and Three Rivers Stadium where my love and knowledge of sports only grew.”

When Cassesse was able to watcher her first sports championship, she was hooked.

“I think it started becoming more of a passion the year the Steelers beat Seattle in the Super Bowl. It was the first time I watched one of the teams I followed win a championship, and I was hooked. When I was in high school several years later and considering my next steps in life, sports journalism just seemed like a natural fit. Every sports journalist starts out as a fan, after all.”

Cassesse says ideally she’d like to be on at least every other Sunday to start but admits that things may be a little inconsistent toward the start of the summer, with her full time job and other projects keeping her occupied for the time being.

Pittsburgh has needed a strong female voice to just talk sports for years and we can’t think of anyone more talented or capable than Shelby!
