Will Steelers look to Wormley to fill defensive line depth in 2021

chris wormley

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It's part of a 93.7 The Fan series of pros and cons for Steelers free agents to be.

DL- Chris Wormley

BIO- Injury limited his opportunities in his first year with the Steelers.  Traded with a 7th round pick from the Ravens for the Steelers 5th round pick, Wormley spent part of this season on Injured Reserve.  The most snaps played were in the final regular season game against Cleveland.  The Michigan man played in 66% of the snaps with 2 tackles, a sack, TFL and QB hit against the Browns.  On the season, Wormley played a couple of handfuls of snaps typically per game, finishing with 8 tackles and that sack against the Browns.  Wormley's stats with the Ravens-39 games, 15 starts, 54 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 7 passes defended, 4 TFL, 9 QB hits.

FOR- There is still need for depth on the defensive line, especially if the Steelers don't re-sign Tyson Alualu.  At 6'5", 300 pounds, Wormley has the size and was thought of highly enough in 2017 to be a third round pick.

AGAINST- The team has better options and Wormley did nothing to distinguish himself during his one year with the Steelers.

PREDICTION- Wormley signs elsewhere
