When you hear creaks and bumps in the night, do you wonder if what you’re hearing is the house settling, or if there’s something paranormal happening in your home?

Jenna Bush Hager, who spent some of her formative years living in the White House when her father, George W. Bush, was president of the United States, thinks it’s the latter at the 228-year old mansion.

In a recent appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” the first daughter and co-host of “Today with Hoda & Jenna” said that the rumor that there are ghosts in the White House is “true.”

“Listen Kelly, you would have liked these ghosts because they were very musical,” she said to the musician-turned-host. She added that they were “kind, friendly, compassionate ghosts.”

Bush Hager said that she and her twin sister Barbara “were going to sleep, our rooms were right next to each other, and it was in college when people would call late. So our phone rang and I woke up, and all of a sudden we heard 1920s piano music coming out of our fireplace.”

She shared that she initially thought it was “the cat or something” and that they tried to talk themselves out of it, but ultimately “jumped into each other’s beds, we were terrified.”

“You can’t imagine what’s happened there so I think it was from another era, but it was definitely terrifying,” she said.

This isn’t the first time she’s talked about this topic: in 2018 she spoke about the incident with Hoda Kotb when she shared that one week after hearing the 1920s music, “we heard the same thing but opera.” When she talked to a long-time White House staffer about her experience, he told her “oh you wouldn’t believe what I’ve heard.”

The Bush family aren’t the only White House residents to report supernatural experiences in the historic residence.

NBC News reports that the “oldest ghost” at the White House is First Lady Abigail Adams, who has supposedly been spotted in the East Room. There are also reports of President Thomas Jefferson playing his violin in the Yellow Oval Room, and First Lady Dolley Madison standing watch over the Rose Garden.

Several people, including British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, supposedly saw the ghost of President Abraham Lincoln in the White House. Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands is alleged to have fainted at the sight of the 16th president, who died over 70 years prior to the incident.
