3 staffers stabbed by ex-student at Switzer Learning Center in Torrance

An ex-student allegedly stabbed three staff members and made a bomb threat at a Torrance special education school Monday.

The violence broke out Monday morning at Switzer Learning Center, a private K-12 special education school at 2201 Amapola Court, south of Del Amo Boulevard.

"At approximately 0815 today, a former student allegedly stabbed a total of three staff members and attempted to stab a fourth before fleeing the scene," according to Captain F. Ahmad with the Torrance Police Department. "Two of the victims were quickly transported to Harbor General Hospital and are currently receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The third victim was treated on the scene by Torrance Fire Department."

The suspect was taken into custody.

"During the apprehension, the suspect made statements indicating he had
placed two pipe bombs in the vicinity of 208 Street and Amapola Avenue," Ahmad continued.

He said the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Bomb
Squad will conduct a thorough investigation.

People have been advised to avoid 208 Street and Amapola Avenue.
