The monument outside Burbank's Public Library has four cubbies. Officials say the monument holds "four time capsules, with one capsule to be added every 25 years between 1976 and 2076.”
When officials opened a time capsule from 2001, they were left with a surprise. The capsule was empty.
“No idea what happened in 2001, but I definitely wouldn't blame them if they read completely different intentions from the instructions left by the original committee,” the library's Kathleen Zapata told KNX News’ Karen Adams.
Zapata says they really would like to know what happened 25 years ago.

“If anyone knows what happened in 2001 or was a part of getting the 1976 time capsule out and resealing it in 2001, we would love more information just to kind of fill in the gaps,” she said.
She also said they need your help to decide what to put in the 2026 time capsule. The items must be small and non-biodegradable. Suggestions must be submitted by September 25th.
