Pharmacists at some of Southern California's major supermarket chains have voted to authorize a strike "should one become necessary," union officials said.
The United Food and Commercial Workers represents nearly 800 pharmacists who work at Ralphs, Vons, Albertsons, and Pavilions in California. In a statement on Thursday, union officials accused Ralphs and Albertsons of refusing to make a fair offer.
"And while we’ve been at the table trying to reach a deal, they’ve been breaking the law, intimidating members by making unilateral changes without bargaining, unlawfully surveilling members who have been active in the contract campaign, and failing to provide information necessary for bargaining," officials said.
The vote does not necessarily mean a strike will occur. The union said the parties are scheduled to return to the bargaining table August 6th and August 7th.
Negotiations have been ongoing for four months under an expired contract.
