As ICE prepares to ramp up raids again in Los Angeles after the Supreme Court lifted the temporary restraining orders, activists are taking action.
Ron Gochez with Union Del Barrio told KNX News’ Jon Baird the group is “more than doubling up” efforts on organizing in the community.
“People have been afraid and will continue to be afraid, but at the same time, we know that being paralyzed with fear is not going to do anything for us,” he said. “So we have to absolutely continue to organize because that's the only way that we can defend ourselves. So we vowed to continue the organization. We vowed to continue to train more people to recruit more people.”
Gochez added that he believes there will be more resistance from community members.
“Whether it's community patrols or protests or what happened in Paramount, Compton, and Huntington Park, the resistance will continue, and it's only growing,” he said.
Juan Jose Guiterrez, the executive director of the Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition in Southern California, told Baird that beginning Sept. 20, his organization is going to start deploying “liberty vans” to head out to where federal agents are conducting raids and taking migrants into custody.

“We're not going to make it any easier for the authorities to arrest and violate the rights of our people,” he said.
He added that the vans will contain a member of the clergy, a member of the US armed forces, a community activist, a lawyer, and a video camera.
