Driver flees after crashing into tree near Sepulveda Basin

The driver of an Alfa Romeo SUV is on the run Friday and two passengers are hospitalized after they crashed into a tree near the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Encino.

The crash was reported around 10:30 p.m. Thursday near Woodley Avenue and Burbank Boulevard near the San Diego (405) Freeway where Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters removed one man from the SUV using hydraulic tools, CBS 2 reported.

A second passenger was taken to a hospital and the conditions of the injured passengers remains unknown.

Video from the scene showed debris - including a tire-  scattered near the crash scene and heavy damage to its front end.

After crashing into the tree, the driver ran way from the scene.
