A woman was rescued in Chino Hills after she was allegedly kidnapped, tortured, and forced to go on a cross-country crime spree.

Deputies say the 51-year-old woman was kidnapped in North Carolina by 28-year-old Rahson Govantes and an unidentified woman and forced to commit fraud throughout the United States.

“She was abused,” Gloria Orajel with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department told KNX News’ Emily Valdez. “They were burning her with cigarettes and a curling iron, and that's probably a way that they got her to comply with these crimes that they were committing.”

Orajel said the woman was rescued on Saturday after deputies responded to a call of suspicious people loitering in front of a Sephora at the shops at Chino Hills.

While Govantes was arrested, investigators are looking for the woman.
