The opening ceremonies for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games are now just two years away, and on Tuesday, LA28 officials began accepting volunteer applications.
It was part of a joint event in Griffith Park where volunteers could sign up for the 2028 games and take part in a cleanup event in the iconic park.
1984 Olympic Gold Medalist Carl Lewis was at the event. He was also recently named an official ambassador for the volunteer program.
“What I remember from the'84 games and all the games I've been to is how important the volunteers were and how you get to know them, they get to know you, the stories, and they don't forget it,” he told KNX News’ Jon Baird. “And so you may end up being in a sport you never thought of and find out it's really incredible.”
He encouraged people to volunteer.
“What I say is that everyone [should] get involved because you want to do something with the Olympics because when it's gone, you'll wish you had,” he said.
