Federal agents arrested a man in Newport Beach at his $35 million mansion for violating U.S. sanctions against Iran.

Officials say 63-year-old Jamshid Ghomi was charged with conspiracy to violate the International Economic Emergency Powers Act.

“His company's annual sales exceeded $10 million, and his clientele included hundreds of Iranian companies and government entities, many of which were subject to US sanctions, said Ciaran McEvoy, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in LA.

Ghomi is alleged to have claimed on his tax forms that he made less than $21,000 a year and took tax breaks for low-income families for multiple years.

He is also accused of smuggling American computer technology to Iran, some of which was sent to the Iranian regime's nuclear and military establishment, according to McEvoy.

“He arranged the smuggling of more than 250 metric tons of networking equipment into Iran,” said McEvoy. “Using freight forwarders and intermediaries in Dubai to disguise that Iran was the true destination.”

If convicted, the dual citizen of the U.S. and Iran faces up to 20 years in prison.
