
LOS ANGELES (CNS) - One person was killed Saturday when a car crashed into the center divider of a freeway transition, veered back across all lanes to the right shoulder and hit a tree, catching fire in the Arleta area of Los Angeles.

The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 3:17 a.m. Saturday and occurred on the transition road from the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway to the southbound Hollywood (170) Freeway.
A witness told the CHP the tree and the car became engulfed in flames.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name, age and gender will be determined by the Medical Examiner's office.
The CHP issued a SigAlert at 4:05 a.m. shutting down all but the HOV lane on the transition from the southbound Golden State to the southbound Hollywood Freeway for the crash investigation.
