Dina's Dirt for December 13, 2024

Dick Van Dyke's neighbors made sure he made it to 99

The latest Billboard Music Awards ended with Taylor Swift became the artist with the most wins in history for the awards show. She took home 10 prizes last night alone, bringing her total career wins to 49 overall. Behind her was Zach Bryan with five awards last night, Morgan Wallen took home four, and Shaboozey, Bad Bunny, Drake, and Elevation Worship tied with three wins each.

Taylor Swift spent her last day at age 34 with children at a Kansas City hospital. Tay visited children and their parents at Children's Mercy Hospital yesterday. Hospital employees say the singer spent at least an hour meeting with patients on the hematology and oncology floor. The "Karma" singer spent time with a young patient named Rylie and his grandmother, Anita Belt, gushed. She took to Facebook saying "Children's Mercy Hospital does their best to nurse seriously ill children, comfort family, and bring a little joy when they can. Today did not disappoint. Thank you Taylor Swift for bringing some joy to Rylie today!!" Tay took a snap with the staff before leaving.

Dick Van Dyke turns 99 today, but it wasn't an easy week getting there. Dick had a close call escaping from wildfires, to the point where his neighbors saved him. Dick said, "I was trying to crawl to the car, I had exhausted myself, I couldn't get up...three neighbors came and carried me out and came back and put out a little fire in the guest house and saved me." Fortunately, Dick's home, his animals, and he and his wife were all unharmed. His cat Bobo did run off during the evacuation but greeted him when he returned home. By the way, Dick's classic children's film "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" is getting a remake. Hopefully, Dick will live long enough to make a cameo in the film.

The Netflix comedy special "Jamie Foxx: What Happened Was …" is streaming now, and in it, Jamie talks about the medical emergency that happened to him last year. Jamie explained that it was a brain bleed that led to a stroke, saying, "April 11, I was having a bad headache, and I asked my boy for an Aspirin. I realized quickly that when you're in a medical emergency, your boys don't know what the f*** to do. Before I could get the Aspirin [clicks his fingers] I went out. I don't remember 20 days." Jamie said he was in a wheelchair and couldn't walk. Now, he's appreciative of this second chance in life.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are spending more time together this holiday season, focusing on family time with their three kids, Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel. On Saturday, the former couple was seen driving together in Brentwood after having breakfast, and they plan to celebrate Christmas as a family, following their tradition of spending Thanksgiving together. People are wondering if this is putting a strain on Jen's relationship with her boyfriend, John Miller, but hopefully he understands that Jen and Ben are co-parenting and creating happy holiday traditions for their kids.

Elton John is being named "Time Icon of the Year." He's accepting the honor humbly, saying it's "a reminder to the world that being yourself is truly iconic. Elton also reflected on his legacy saying it would be enough if "people remember that we tried to change the world a little bit, we were kind, we tried to help people."

Artisanal ice cream chain Van Leeuwen has whipped up a fun, limited-edition ice cream inspired by "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City." The SLC Scoop, featuring a purple lavender base with salted caramel pieces, is the perfect balance of sweet and salty — just like the drama on the show. If that's the case, it might be a little too salty.
