"Really? Very interesting," he said when hearing Iverson was the winner. "Who did the voting on this?
Ike Reese informed Schmidt that it was likely due to a lot of the votes coming from the younger fans.
"That's a good reason, but I'm wondering how the 40 and under people would be in touch with Allen Iverson maybe moreso than they might be with the Eagles players now or current Sixers players," said Schmidt. "But whatever! That's fine! I'm happy to at least be considered at #1 and not quite making it. I'm 70 years old guys and everything is good with me."
Reese and Marks then informed Schmidt that most of the 94WIP hosts had Schmidt No. 1.
"See, Ike, that makes me feel great," Schmidt said. "I appreciate it. So, I won the popular vote, but didn't win the election!"
Schmidt also talked about the current state of Major League Baseball, his thoughts on the recent labor negotiations, and the league hopefully resuming this summer.
