The Eagles have had the NFL's best record for 32 straight weeks, but wake up this morning with the fifth seed in the NFC playoff picture.
It's been a rough two weeks for Nick Sirianni and company, getting outscored by 43 points by their two biggest rivals in the NFC and now they get a much-needed extra day of rest before Monday night's trip to Seattle.
As we begin to pick up the pieces and move forward, here are three numbers that paint just how dreadful the Eagles have been in recent weeks:
4: The Eagles have been held to under 10 first half points in each of their last four games. A year ago, they were held to less than 10 points just twice.
The 2022 Eagles were a dominant first-half team posting a point differential of +121, but have struggled to replicate that success in 2023 and the difference is staggering:
The Eagles point differential in the first half is 151 points worse than it was a year ago and the issues are on both sides of the ball. They've already allowed more first half points than they did in 17 games and have yet to cross the 20 point threshold before halftime.
This team is built to play from ahead and through 13 games, they haven't shown the same knack for getting early leads they had a year ago.
24: The Eagles have pressured opposing quarterbacks just 24 percent of the time over the last six games, third worst in the NFL. (h/t Bill Barnwell)
The inability to pressure the quarterback and create negative plays has wreaked havoc on the Eagles defense in key situations as they now rank dead last in third down defense and 30th in the red zone.
Unfortunately, the answer isn't simply blitz more, because opposing quarterbacks have torched the Eagles when they send extra pressure.
In the last two weeks, the Eagles have blitzed 18 times and recorded just one sack. Meanwhile, Brock Purdy and Dak Prescott combined to go 14-17 for 303 yards and four touchdowns against the Birds blitz.
The Eagles secondary does not have the talent to hold up when quarterbacks get time in the pocket and Howie Roseman built this roster with an emphasis on getting after the quarterback, but through 13 weeks, the results have been extremely underwhelming.
96.3: Lane Johnson has been one of the most important players on the Eagles over the last decade, but his pass-blocking efficiency rating of 96.3 is his lowest since his rookie season.
This isn't to say Johnson isn't still playing at a high level, but after allowing just two sacks in the previous four seasons, he's allowed three in the last four games and he's allowed 28 total pressures this year after allowing 27 from 2020 through 2022.
The Eagles offensive line is still the second-highest graded pass blocking unit on Pro Football Focus, but Jalen Hurts has been pressured 73 times in the last four games and has struggled against the blitz all season.
There are a number of issues that need to be corrected before the Eagles travel to Seattle next week, but solidifying the pass protection should be at the top of the list.
