The Philadelphia Eagles’ game against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2 last season was one of eight total Week 2 matchups with one team that covered the spread in a Week 1 win and the other team that didn’t cover the spread in a Week 1 loss.
It’s a betting spot that historically favors the team coming off the ATS and outright losses, though the Eagles bucked the trend in that game. They covered as a 5.5-point favorite in the 34-28 win, one of four ATS wins for those teams last season as they split the eight games.
Since 2010, teams coming off the ATS and outright losses are 47-32-1 against the spread against teams coming off the wins. They’ve finished below .500 in those Week 2 games only three times over those 14 seasons.
The Eagles have another opportunity to buck the trend on Monday. One week after covering in a win over the Green Bay Packers, they host the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2, who didn’t cover in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
As of Tuesday’s NFL odds at BetMGM, the Eagles are a 6.5-point favorite. They’ve covered two straight Week 2 games after failing to cover in their previous five Week 2 games, including against the Atlanta Falcons in 2019.
