Not often do NFL teams enter the postseason on a losing streak. It’s happened only 25 times in the last 20 years. But when it does happen, those teams typically fare well against the spread.
The Philadelphia Eagles were one of those teams last year, though they didn’t fare well. As a 3-point favorite against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they weren’t close to covering in the 31-9 loss. Nor were the Miami Dolphins in their own blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs two days earlier.
It was the first time in more than two decades a single postseason had multiple ATS losses from teams who finished the season on a losing streak. Entering last year, those teams were 14-8-1 since 2004.
This year, the Eagles are on the other side of the trend. They’re favored against the Green Bay Packers, losers of two straight games entering Sunday’s wild-card matchup. As of Tuesday’s odds at BetMGM, the Eagles are a 4.5-point favorite.
Spread: Eagles -4.5 (-110), Packers +4.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Eagles -250, Packers +195
Total: Over 45.5 (-110), Under 45.5 (-110)
Another losing-streak team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, are a 10-point underdog against the Baltimore Ravens. They’re the third team in NFL history to enter the postseason on a losing streak of four games — and the first since the Detroit Lions in 1999.
