After coming off of a series win and taking two of three games against the New York Mets it’d be wise to think Joe DeCamara would be more upbeat.
However, that was not the case.
“What we saw this weekend to me was a Phillies team that was awfully lucky to win two of three,” DeCamara said on the 94WIP Morning Show. “This Phillies squad from what I saw does not look like a playoff team… The two of three versus the uninspiring way of getting there with the Mets not catching multiple pop ups or fly balls on Friday night, gift wrapping the win for the Phillies yesterday, plunking batters, walking batters, and errors. I mean the 8th inning was a debacle of Major League Baseball by the New York Mets, the Phillies did almost actually nothing."
The 8th inning that DeCamara referred to in the series clincher saw ten Phillies hitters come to the plate but only muster one base knock while Mets pitchers imploded by walking three batters and plunking two in a row to give the Phillies the lead.
On the other hand, Reuben Frank filling in for Jon Ritchie had a differing view from DeCamara.
“I look at it like this, it's a long season and you win as many games as you can, however you can win them and I don’t care how you do it. Think about the double doink game. What was your takeaway after that game? Were you bummed because they (Philadelphia Eagles) didn’t play well and they won on a fluke at the end?"
The Phillies are now 40-37 after going 2-3 on their latest homestand and will begin a three-game road trip against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.
